Have you ever wondered who Bruni D'Entrecasteaux was? Bruni Island was named after an explorer who came to Southern Tasmania in the 1700's, before the Dutch or English sailors.
It's a short drive down the Channel Highway to Gordon where European made their first contact with Australia. The French ship navigated by Bruni D'Entrecasteaux sailed through between Bruny Island and the mainland of Tasmania.
